Toyota Replacement Keys - Key Fob Reprogramming - Hamer Toyota Parts Center

Getting a replacement key or key fob reprogramming for your Toyota has become a lot more involved than it used to be. Prior to the 1990s, if you lost your keys you could simply get a spare key made at any hardware store, locksmith or auto dealership. There has been many advancements in the technology of today's vehicles and the keys are no exception. We have gone from basic metal keys that have cuts and grooves like a house key, to Transponder Keys, Laser-Cut Keys and Smart Keys.
Although these advancements in key technology have made newer vehicles more convenient to operate and more difficult to steal, it has also increased the pricing and the security steps and procedures involved in getting replacement keys.

For your security and protection against auto theft, Dealer Personal must verify vehicle ownership before providing replacement keys, key numbers and/or security chips.

Verification should include positive identification of requester and verification of vehicle ownership through registration. This information will ensure that the key codes are being given to the proper owner of the vehicle

The following documentation MUST BE PROVIDED
  • Copy of the driver's license
  • Copy of the title or insurance card
  • Copy of the registration
  • Vehicle license plate number
Our dealership must make a permanent file, by VIN of all key requests and must include copies of the following:
  • Government issued picture ID (Drivers License)
  • Vehicle's registration or other proof of ownership
  • Copy of the paid customer receipt which has the name of the employee who cut and sold the key to the customer.
This file is subject to review by Regional Field Staff, Toyota Audit, Toyota Security and law enforcement agencies.

If vehicle ownership cannot be proven beyond a reasonable doubt, Key Codes or Keys will not be provided.

Toyota Transponder Keys

Transponder Keys have a transponder chip in the plastic head of the key. The chip emits a signal to a receiver in the ignition. If the does not detect the correct signal, meaning that the wrong key is in the ignition, the vehicle will not start.
When replacing a transponder key, the chip in the transponder key must be programmed to the receiver before it can start the vehicle.

Toyota Laser-Cut Keys

Laser-Cut Keys have a distinctive winding cut with a slightly thicker shank and built-in transponder chips that need to be programmed to the receiver before it can start the vehicle.

Toyota Smart Key System

Smart keys allow you to lock and unlock the doors, and start the engine while the key stays in your purse, pocket or just about anywhere on your person.
If you leave a Smart key inside the car and the lock button on the door handle is pressed, an alert will notify you and the vehicle will not lock.
Smart key's use randomized rolling security codes as their main form of security. The vehicle's computer recognizes the code emitted by the smart key and verifies it is correct before starting the engine.

The Hamer Toyota Parts Center has Toyota Replacement Keys for your Toyota vehicle and the machines necessary to cut and/or program these keys.
